The MAX3483, MAX3485, MAX3486, MAX3488, MAX3490 and MAX3491 ICs are low-power 3.3V transmitters and receivers for RS-485 and RS-422 communication. Each part includes a driver and a receiver. The MAX3483 and MAX3488 have limited-speed drivers that minimize EMIs, reduce reflections from improper cables, and allow error-free data transfer at data rates of up to 250 kbps. The MAX3486 transmits with speeds of up to 2.5 Mbps. MAX3485, MAX3490 and MAX3491 transmits at a maximum speed of 10 Mbps. The drivers have a short circuit current and are protected against excessive power dissipation by a thermal shutdown circuit that puts the driver outputs in high impedance mode. Receiver input has a fault-safe feature that guarantees high-logic output when both inputs are open.MAX3488, MAX3490 and MAX3491 have full two-way communication, while MAX3483, MAX3485 and MAX3486 are designed for semi-two-way communication.
